Bob Beal of Hingham, a Vietnam Veteran, wanted to be sure that each Hingham soldier returning from Iraq received a very special welcome home. Working with the Hingham High School Wrestling team and Boosters, he arranged to have the Dec 23rd quad be an event to honor Veterans of all wars, and to especially welcome home Kevin Hennessey, a native of Hingham who served in the U.S. Marines in Iraq for 7 months. State Rep. Garrett Bradley awarded Kevin a citation from the Mass. House of Representatives for his service to his country.
Eight-year-old Reed Eckert of Sioux City, Iowa came to Boston for three months to receive proton radiation at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston for an aggressive brain tumor and cancer. He and his Mom stayed at the Ronald McDonald House in Brookline. Prior to his coming, his Dad posted a note on masswrestling.com to let the local wrestling community know that he has been an active youth wrestler for 4 yrs in Sioux City, Iowa. His dad wanted him to get him involved with a nearby club for 1 practice a week to keep his schedule somewhat normal. Coach Jim Maher of Dedham responded right away. The outpouring of support just from the posted note was overwhelming, as the wrestling community is really one big family. One of the teams to reach out to Reed was the Hingham High School team under the captainship of John Beal and Greg Vaughan and the very active Boosters. They dedicated the February 3rd quad to Reed, where he wrestled with the varsity and youth, and was feted at an ice cream party hosted by team parents. A 50/50 raffle was held to help support the family's expenses while in Boston. State Rep. Garrett Bradley presented a citation in honor of Reed, and the team gave him a JV letter making him an official team member. Wrestling is a big part of the Eckert family's life. You can learn more about Reed by checking out carepages.com and then typing "thereedreview" Good News! We received word that Reed's test results were all good. The results will also be sent to MGH in Boston for evaluation but there doesn't appear to be any indications of new tumors at this time. There are some changes that are best reviewed by the Proton Radiation Team at MGH. His next regular check will be in 8 to 12 weeks.
