Bradley April 3, 2009 Bradley and Hedlund Announce Final Payment for Jacobs School in HullBoston – State Representative Garrett J. Bradley (D-Hingham) and Senator Robert Hedlund (R-Weymouth) are pleased to announce that the Town of Hull received its final reimbursement payment of $713,320 on April 3rd from the Massachusetts School Building Authority. This funding is the final payment made to the town for the construction of the Lillian M. Jacobs Elementary School. The new elementary school project was added to the Department of Education’s Priority Waitlist in 2000 at a reimbursement rate of 71 percent. The total project cost was $27,620,000 of which $20,093,524 represented costs eligible for partial reimbursement by the state. The 120,000 square foot school, which serves approximately 550 students in pre-kindergarten through 5th grade, opened in September, 2008. According to previously published news articles, the school was named for Lillian M. Jacobs, who retired in 1967 after teaching in Hull for nearly 40 years and passed away in 1990 at age 85. “As one of the original supporters of the new School Building Authority program, I am pleased to see the state’s funding support for the Lillian M. Jacobs Elementary School. Thanks to the efforts and hard work of Hull town officials, the Hull School Committee and the leadership of Treasurer Tim Cahill and the School Building Authority, the new school will be a welcome addition to the community,” said Rep. Bradley. “This money is atestament to all the time and work put in by school officials and parents in planning the school, and to the taxpayers of Hull who stepped up and voted to fund it,” said Sen. Hedlund, who also was one of the original proponents for a reformed school building assistance program. ###
