Bradley Nantasket Beach Reservation Trust Fund Established in State Budget May 1, 2009 BOSTON—Representative Garrett J. Bradley, D-Hingham, (Boston) – Representative Garrett J. Bradley, D-Hingham, announced that he was able to secure an amendment in the House budget that will establish the Nantasket Beach Reservation Trust Fund. The funds collected will be used for the long-term preservation, maintenance and safety of the Nantasket Beach Reservation. Money remaining in the fund at the end of each year would remain in the trust and made available for use in subsequent fiscal years. Rep. Bradley said, “The amendment will help offset costs that the town of Hull incurs as a result of sending police and fire emergency personnel to the Nantasket DCR Reservation, which is the state’s responsibility. This new funding mechanism will also provide the Nantasket Beach Reservation with a self-sustaining source of money to preserve this national historic treasure. This new trust fund will complement the hard work of local residents and organizations that have raised money and participated in events designed to support and preserve Nantasket Beach.” The section of the budget added by Rep. Bradley would authorize the Department of Conservation and Recreation to impose a $10 surcharge on the fee collected for parking in the Nantasket Beach Reservation, and that money would be deposited directly into the trust fund. The language inserted in the budget still requires approval of the Senate and Governor before it can take effect.
