Rep. Bradley Speaks To St. Frances X. Cabrini Parishioners

Garrett speaks to St. Frances parishioners June 27, 2010

Boston- State Representative Garrett Bradley, D-Hingham, was recently invited to speak to the parishioners of St. Frances X. Cabrini Church in Scituate during their Sunday, June 27 worship service.  Rep. Bradley thanked the parishioners for their invitation, saying he was honored to be able to address the members of St. Frances.

Rep. Bradley said, “I have long admired the dedicated and devoted Catholic faith community of this parish who have, since October 2004, organized and kept vigil 24/7 with a fierce and unwavering determination to keep their Church intact.”

“We are grateful for Rep. Bradley’s support and his courage to stand up and recognize our plight at St. Frances X. Cabrini, Scituate,” said Maryellen Rogers, co-spokesperson of the Friends of St. Frances X. Cabrini Church.   “Vibrant and fiscally sound parishes should not be stolen out from the loyal parishioners who have built, paid for, and maintained these spiritual homes over the years.  Especially when there are viable and reasonable solutions at hand versus using force and handcuffs to remove congregants.  This is no longer a Church issue and we applaud Rep. Bradley for his valor in echoing this sentiment and sharing his support.”

In May, 2004 the Archdiocese of Boston notified 85 Catholic churches across the Commonwealth that they would be closing their doors later that year.  After nearly 6 years of countless appeals at various Church levels, this past May the Vatican’s highest court upheld the Archdiocese decision to close parishes and rejected the appeal filed by 10 parishes, including St. Frances X. Cabrini Church.  The Friends of St. Frances X. Cabrini intend to file a further appeal with would restrict the Catholic Church from deconsecrating the church, which the Archdiocese would have to do before authorizing it to be used for anything other than a church.BOSTON, MA– Sen. Robert Hedlund (R-Weymouth) and Rep. Garrett Bradley (D-Hingham) are pleased to announce that the Hull Housing Authority has been awarded a $5,000 technical assistance and emergency capital improvement grant from the Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD).
