Bradley and Hedlund Announce Construction Payment for Hingham Elementary School

Boston – State Representative Garrett J. Bradley (D-Hingham) and Senator Robert Hedlund (R-Weymouth) are pleased to announce that the Town of Hingham received a payment of $453,941 on March 23 from the Massachusetts School Building Authority.  This funding is the seventh payment made to Hingham for the new elementary school construction project and, combined with previous grant payments totals $6,640,610 in reimbursement payments made to the town for this project since September, 2008.  The town received payments of $538,289 on February 26, $822,155 on January 26, and $1,942,803 on January 6, 2009.  Previous payments have included $782,706 on November 18, $7,170 on October 23 and $2,093,546 on September 23, 2008.

The new 91,000 square foot elementary school, currently under construction, is located off of East Street at the site of a former school.  It will house 630 pre-kindergarten to Grade 5 students and is designed to include “green” or environmentally friendly materials.  The school is expected to be completed and open for the fall of 2009.

“As one of the original advocates in the House for the new school building assistance program, I am pleased to see the state’s funding support for Hingham’s new elementary school.  Thanks to the dedication and hard work of our local officials and the leadership of Treasurer Tim Cahill and the School Building Authority, the new school will be a welcome addition to the Hingham community and serve students, teachers and staff for years to come,” said Rep. Bradley.

“This money is a testament to all the time and work put in by school officials and parents in planning the school, and to the taxpayers of Hingham who stepped up and voted to fund it,” said Sen. Hedlund, who also was one of the original proponents for a reformed school building assistance program.
