Hedlund Announce Funding for Hull Housing Authority Project (Boston) – Representative Garrett J. Bradley, D-Hingham, and Senator Robert L. Hedlund, R-Weymouth, today announced that the Hull Housing Authority has been awarded technical assistance funding worth $19,200 to repair or replace 10 entryways at the McTighe Manor development. The funding from the State Department of Housing and Community Development will supplement the Housing Authority’s own capital reserves. The DHCD also waived the limit on receiving advances against a funding formula allocation so that the Hull Housing Authority can proceed with this project, since the state considers the repair or replacement of entryways to be an additional health and safety item. The housing authority has drawn funds in excess of the limit for two previously funded emergency projects such as the replacement of a heating boiler. Rep. Bradley said, “I applaud the Department for recognizing the need to provide technical and financial support for our local housing authorities who often struggle to manage properties with limited resources. This funding will help ensure that residents continue to live in a safe and secure environment.” “It is important to make sure that we keep these units as safe and secure as possible,” Sen. Hedlund said. “This small investment will go a long way to preserving these housing units for those in need.” Catherine Luna, Managing Agent for the Hull Housing Authority, said the state funding is welcome news given the limited available resources. “We are very thankful for these funds. They are sorely needed and will help us to improve the facilities for the safety of residents living in the complex,” said Luna. In a letter addressed to Patrice Kenney, Chair of the Hull Housing Authority, the DHCD indicated the authority is also eligible for participation in the Accelerated Emergency Response Pilot, a voluntary program that allows local housing authorities to administer emergency capital projects with a construction cost of less than $25,000. ###
