July 2, 2010 Boston - As one of the lead sponsors of the National Popular Vote Bill, State Representative Garrett J. Bradley has been recognized with the Legislative Achievement Award by Common Cause Massachusetts for his work in promoting the issue of National Popular Vote. One of the most skilled debaters on National Popular Vote, Rep. Bradley joined his colleagues in the Massachusetts House of Representatives in passing the National Popular Vote Bill on June 2, 2010. “House members recognized that the current system is inherently undemocratic, and has become outdated and obsolete,” declared Bradley as he spoke in favor of the bill on the House Floor. “In every other election, except for the highest office in the land, the person with the most votes wins. This bill will ensure that the voters of Massachusetts have an equal voice in the process.” Under this legislation, Massachusetts will join Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, New Jersey and Washington in appropriating all of its electoral votes to the winner of the national popular vote regardless of which candidate garners the most votes in Massachusetts. Rep. Bradley has worked as both Chairman of the Joint Committee on Election Laws from 2007-2008 and as point person for the National Popular Vote Bill during its July 2009 debate.
