Bradley BRADLEY & HEDLUND ANNOUNCE HULL AWARDED LARGE COMMUNITYDEVELOPMENT BLOCK GRANT Patrick Administration confirms Hull will receive $955,437 BOSTON -- Representative Garrett J. Bradley (D-Hingham) and Senator Robert L. Hedlund (R-Weymouth) are pleased to announce that the town of Hull will receive $955,437 in a federal Community Development Block Grant from the Patrick Administration. The grants are awarded to cities and towns to help them renovate homes, rebuild streets and sidewalks, beautify neighborhoods, boost business and economic development opportunities, and upgrade social services. “These funds will play an important role in helping us to improve communities and neighborhoods in every region of the state,” said Governor Patrick. “Whether it is increased affordable housing opportunities, improved roadways, expanded businesses or refurbished parks, residents from the Berkshires to the Cape and the Islands will benefit from today’s announcement.” “I thank the Patrick administration for this award. I, along with town officials and my colleague in the Senate, personally lobbied the Governor and his staff to make certain Hull received this grant. In times of tight local aid, additional funds like these are hard to come by but critical to communities,” said Chairman Bradley. “This funding provides important resources to develop and enhance affordable housing neighborhoods in Hull,” said Senate Minority Whip Robert Hedlund. “I look forward to the improvements to take place.” “The Town of Hull is appreciative of Representative Bradley and Senator Hedlund's efforts to secure the Community Development Block Grant in the amount of $955,437. Once again our legislative team has hit a "Home Run" for the citizens of Hull, said Town Manager Phil Lemnios. “We also are thankful to Governor Patrick and his administration for assisting the Town with the projects that will now go forward as a result of this grant award.” “These grants are an extremely valuable and popular resource and can be used any number of ways to serve low- and moderate-income residents of the Commonwealth,” said Housing and Community Development Undersecretary Tina Brooks. Community Development Block Grants are issued annually by the federal government and are awarded competitively to cities and towns to address a wide range of unique development needs. The Massachusetts Department of Housing and Community Development administer CDBG funds to cities and towns with populations of less than 50,000. The funds are targeted to provide decent housing and a suitable living environment and to expand economic opportunities, principally for persons of low- and moderate-income. ###
