MBTA adding second JFK/UMass stop to Greenbush line schedule

BOSTON, MA – Sen. Robert Hedlund (R-Weymouth), and Reps. Frank Hynes (D-Marshfield) and Garrett Bradley (D-Hingham) are pleased to announce that the MBTA has agreed to add an additional JFK/UMass stop to the Greenbush commuter rail line outbound schedule.

Beginning Monday, April 7, the 5:20 p.m. Greenbush train out of South Station will stop and pick up passengers at the JFK/UMass commuter rail platform at 5:26 p.m. Currently, the only other Greenbush stop at JFK/UMass is at 4:08 p.m., which has precluded many of those who work in the area, or attend school at either Boston College High School or UMass-Boston, from using the new rail line.

Sen. Hedlund and Reps. Hynes and Bradley said their offices had each received multiple calls from constituents asking them to request an additional stop later in the evening.

“The addition of a second outbound stop at JFK/UMass is good news for South Shore commuters,” Rep. Hynes said. “This will provide more options and flexibility for those attending UMass, as well as for students at Boston College High School.”

“This change should have nothing but a positive impact on Greenbush ridership,” Sen. Hedlund said. “I thank the MBTA for listening to the concerns of my constituents and incorporating their suggestions into the new schedule.”

“I am very pleased to see that the MBTA was responsive to the feedback received from the riders of the Greenbush line" said Rep. Bradley. “I trust that this new schedule will allow more South Shore residents to consider using the commuter rail as a convenient and environmentally-friendly commuting option.”
