Representative Bradley Votes to Abolish Suffolk County Holidays Recently the House of Representatives voted on an amendment to a supplemental budget that would eliminate two paid holidays for municipal and state workers in Suffolk County. Representative Garrett J. Bradley (D-Hingham) voted to eliminate both of these paid holidays but was unsuccessful in that attempt as the vote ended in a rarely seen tie. The proposal is relative to the state paid holidays of Evacuation Day (March 17) and Bunker Hill Day (June 17). The Massachusetts Taxpayers Foundation recently released a study claiming it costs the state $5 million to pay public employees on each day off. “While I recognize the historical significance of both holidays, I believe there are better ways to observe these occasions than simply giving a select group of state and municipal employees the day off,” said Bradley. “It is inappropriate to shut down all state and municipal offices in Suffolk County for a pair of holidays that do not extend to workers in the private sector.” Representative Bradley's State House and district offices were staffed on June 17.
Seabee Combat Warfare Specialists Keith Jermyn of Hingham & Donnie Lockhart of Hull display the Flag of the Commonwealth in Al Anbar, Iraq. The flag was donated by Representative Bradley.
